In 2010, my marketing agency went under when my biggest client went bust overnight. I was left with a significant tax debt, a young daughter, and the dawning realisation that I needed to figure out a completely different way of making a living - and quickly.
What followed was a fairly unglamorous few years of trial and error, wrong turns, things I thought would work that absolutely didn't, and a slow but steady process of working out what actually makes a small business sustainable and profitable. From 2013 I started building things that worked - digital products, memberships, recurring income - and I haven't looked back.
I built The Girls Mean Business in the gaps. School runs, a small child, a house to run, a mother to keep an eye on. I built it in the hours between drop-off and pick-up. It took longer than it might have otherwise - and it still worked.
I founded The Girls Mean Business in 2011 as a community and education platform for women running small businesses. Since then I've worked with thousands of women - makers, bakers, photographers, therapists, retailers, crafters, service providers of every kind - and the same things come up again and again. The same doubts. The same pricing problems. The same "I know I should be doing X but I don't know how." The same feeling of making it up as you go along.

All five phases of course content go live on Monday 20th April, three days before the first call. You get instant access to everything straight away, so you can start working through it before we meet on Thursday. Every Thursday at 12.30pm UK time, starting 23rd April. Calls run for 60-90 minutes. We've chosen lunchtime to suit as many time zones as possible. If you can't make it live, the replay will be available later that same afternoon.
The live call is 60-90 minutes. Beyond that, it depends on how quickly you work through the content and action steps. Most people find a couple of hours a week is plenty. The whole thing is designed to fit around a real life with real responsibilities, not an imaginary one with six spare hours a day.
